  • The new beam supports the house

Picking up where the last picture of the basement left off, the new beam is placed into the floor joists, giving the basement an entirely different feel of openness. This work originally took place in early June.

  • The basement takes shape

Done with the basement framing..Took down the last of the beam, put up new walls. Ben dug out the window well so we could accommodate an egress window on the south side.

  • Choosing a house color

We knew what we wanted, but couldn’t find it without special mixing, so we went to Daly’s on Stoneway and met with Richard Cunningham who was able to zoom in on what we wanted immediately and gave usa quart for these sample swatches. So fun how the different lights and angles change the impression from […]

  • Siding continues – shingles are done

The shingles came out so pretty, it’ll be a shame to paint them. Many have already asked about that, and we gave thought to all the options. In the end, we decided to go with paint for two reasons… first, it was always painted, and second, because we don’t have the stamina to reside […]

  • Pump-Jacks are cool

We had a use and safety lesson on the pump jacks before we could put them to use. Very handy for putting the shingle siding on the addition, and then we’ll use them for paint prep, like scraping and filling nail holes from the removal of the cement siding. Oliver tried on a harness during […]

  • Wiring the basement

All Claude’s work. We have working lights and a working washing machine so far.

  • Lap siding and trim

When we removed the cement siding that had been put on, we’re guessing in the 50’s or so, we found some gaps in the siding that we attributed to wood that had been removed because it was in poor condition. Jon was the one who figured out what was missing was a trim piece that […]

  • Enclosing the envelope

Installing the windows and roofing. Love the new kitchen’s french doors.

  • Exterior – scraping, prepping, painting

This is ongoing work. We are scraping much of the house ourselves, including pieces of siding we removed from the rear of the house prior to demolition, in order to have some on hand for repairs of the existing original siding on the house. The trim around the windows and along the belly bands was […]

  • Framing – the basement living space

Now that that beam has been moved, and the plumbing laid under the slab, it’s time to place the new walls in the basement living area. The furnace, heating ducts, bathroom and kitchen will determine the layout here.
