Holding up the house part 2

Installing a new 8 x 10 glu-lam beam in two 16 foot lengths. We were quickly able to dissemble the back half of the old 6×8 beam that was a full 33 feet long, but have to wait until we disconnect the live knob and tube that’s attached to the other half before taking it all down. We are now holding the house up with a new beam that is 10 inches north of the previous beam. No noticeable changes in the balance of the upstairs living space, but the basement living area is significantly more open, both in layout and head room. Yes, Claude really can walk across the basement now without ducking his head.
